Yes Car dash cams can reduce your insurance.

Car dash cams and the benefits

  • The question is will a dash cam really reduce my insurance premium

I guess the easy and short answer would have to be probably, however don't take that as a given, remember in some cases your dash cam could record something that goes against you and not the other driver.
The only real way to be sure about reductions in insurance premiums is to search for the genuine companies that actually state in their terms that your premiums will be lower if you have a dash cam.
As far as i'm aware there are more and more companies doing this but definitely not them all.

  • Dash cam as a Police Witness

If you buy a decent cam or better still maybe get one bought for you, it is nearly Christmas after all, also make sure you have it fitted properly and positioned correctly then what better way to have a Police Witness sitting right there in the car with you.
Imagine if you have someone jump out in front of you or you have a genuine accident that is completely not your fault, what better way to capture it all than with a dash cam.
There is an old saying and that is "The Camera Never Lies".

  • Which Dash Cam to go for
My advise would be to go for a decent quality unit with good HD, and top this off ideally with a wide angle lens.
If you can afford to but one with Number Plate recognition then go for it.
Most Dash Cams are fairly easy to fit as they are designed exactly for that job, however if your unsure then have it fitted by a professional, lets face it you don't want to be driving along and having to fiddle with the Cam to get it to work or stop it falling on the floor.
The general idea is to be drive safer and feel safer on the road and save a couple of quid into the bargain.

I have added a few nice  looking Dash Cams here in this blog, take a look and see what you think.
